First Period

Second Class

I had to teach on Thursday 8th

This time I felt more comfortable than the previous class. In that class I did not teach grammar, I just had to make them practice about the topic they were studying the last class. The topic was about adjective + prepositions so to start the class I divided them in two groups. I dictated some adjectives and they had to write sentences with those adjectives and their corresponding preposition, the group who finished first got a point. That activity helped me to break the ice because they were kind of discouraged, so it helped me to cheer them up. I could see they were enjoying the game. I think the feeling of competition with their classmates increases the desire to participate.  Then I asked them which words they could relate with the word FAMILY, because later I read a concept about family and they had to create their own concept about it. Then I asked them to share their concepts with the whole class.
Later I gave them some recycle paper and asked them to draw a picture about how they and their families will be in fifty years also about the changes of the country. When they finished their drawings they had to go around the classroom and explain it to their classmates. Then they explained the drawing to the whole class.  In the next activity I had a listening from the book, I gave them some copies with some questions that they had to answer regarding to the conversation from the listening. After they completed the task we checked the answers. Afterwards I explained them the meaning of some words that were in the listening part.  This time I enjoyed more the class, students were always participating. Something that I do not like is that their classroom is too small, so sometimes it´s difficult to develop some activities. But I know that nothing is perfect so I must learn how to deal with these kinds of things.

  1. Hi Connie!!! I like the warm up you used, I am in agreement with you about that the Ss enjoy a lot the feeling of competition in the classroom, they usually have fun with those activities, and at the same time is really helpful for us to introduce the next topic...
really nice the fact that they were walking around the class, sharing their ideas, also they practiced listening, I can see that you included several options for them to learn...Congratulations my friend!!!!

  2. Hello Connie!! Nice way to start the class. You involved the whole class since the beginning and that is great. When students feel they are doing something different, they enjoy it and become more willing to participate, and, even more in the way you did it. Some people always want to be better than the rest, so they take those kinds of competitions for shining. On the other hand, you have the people who silently show what they can do and in these sort of games they sometimes surprised the others. The other activity was nice as you made them think. Sharing ideas and elicit responses is always good. Nice performance Connie! Hope you keep on the same track! Best regards!

  3. Geez! What a nice warm-up! The entire class was participating since you started, and that is an excellent point. If your students participate, they learn, and if they learn well, your objective was reached. Such an excellent job, Connie! Keep doing well :)

I could see you developed a lot of activities and they were very interesting. I consider it is very important so that students can have the chance to practice more about the topic they are studying. Continue working hard..BLESSINGS!!

  5. Hello my friend,
I really liked all the activities that you developed; they were very motivating and dynamic. Well done!
On the other hand, I have the same problem with the small classroom; I don't like it because it's difficult to do TPR activities, but as you said that is something that we have to learn how to deal with.
I'm happy for you because I can see you are improving as a professional with every new experience and that's the target of this subject. So great job!! =D
